Stop procrastinating!

Are you leaving unpleasant tasks to the very last minute before you get them done? Everyone has that one thing they just don’t like doing and they put it off week after week – telling themselves they’ll get to it later. It’s very easy to convince yourself you’ll take on an unpleasant task at a later date, but it’s definitely not easy to actually get down to business and get ‘er done.

It’s actually very easy to get something unpleasant accomplished if you follow these three steps:

1. Set a designated time to start the job you don’t like.

Schedule the time, put it in your calendar, and commit to working on the task when you’ve scheduled it.

2. Set a time limit!

Recognizing that the task is unpleasant, it’s essential that you set a time limit. Try working on the task for only 4 hours. Commit to being finished when your timer goes off and once that happens, you are not going to continue with the task. While some projects might take more than 4 hours, only schedule yourself to work on them for short periods of time. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, unmotivated, and find reasons to procrastinate when your task is a big one.

3. Reward yourself

That’s right! Plan a reward, make it something you enjoy, and know that once you’ve finished working for the day, that reward is waiting for you.
